We have the Start of a Driveway!

The long awaited time is finally over! After a few months of set backs, we have officially started our driveway. Between the weather, holidays and my husband having an accident at work, our timeframe got pushed back multiple times. But now, the weather is cooperating, the holidays are behind us and my husband is on the road to recovery so we can make some progress!

With our driveway being so long, that is where the majority of trees will need to be removed. And luckily for us, it is still a pretty small amount of trees in the grand scheme of things. When we are cutting down trees, we try to keep it to a minimum so that the destruction of the forest does not overtake its natural regeneration. The location of our house won’t require any trees to come down, only grading so we are thankful for that. There is a huge amount of deer and wildlife on our property, and we plan to disturb that as little as possible.

With us owning a tree removal company, my husband went in and felled the majority of the trees already. This weekend the plan is to grade out the beginning of the driveway and have concrete poured on Monday. Fingers crossed this plan stays in tact! Then we will remove the remaining trees from the driveway and make our way down to the end.

We will have to install concrete conduits in two different spots. This being because our driveway will cross over two different creeks. During this time, we will also need to start getting some ideas together on what we want our entrance to look like! As of now, the concrete will go just past the gate and gravel for the remaining.

This is such an exciting time! It finally feels real now that we are making some progress. And to top it off, the weather is going to be beautiful this weekend. It sounds like all the makings to a perfect weekend to me!

just curious if you are working with an architect on a custom home or purchasing plans with a little tweaking if needed? I’m wondering how hard it is to find the floor plan I would like in purchased plans (which would be so much cheaper) rather than going custom? Just recently came across your IG account and am enjoying your blog.

Oh my goodness! You have taken the words right out of my mouth! It has by far been the toughest experience so far trying to find a floorplan we love and can tweak a little. I had to take a break from it but now I’m back to looking!
